The SUBSTANCE
I really enjoy watching a movie that I don't know too much about before hand. I enjoy the mystery as it unfolds. I really enjoyed this movie the more it went on, even during its crazy, bizarre, and modern classic ending.
Demi Moore was a perfect cast for this role, as was Margaret Qualley. I really feel the two had a great dynamic despite not often being on screen at the same time. I love how the characters had issues with each-other as the stories developed. Of course, there is a lot of nudity in this, yet, It feels justified and tasteful.
Ultimately, it is a message of self image, a message that suggests we should be happy with who we are and those that force change, or try to hold onto youth, can end up regretting their decisions. One that perhaps speaks directly to Hollywood and celebrities.
Coralie Fargeat did a great job with this movie and it is certainly a stand out movie of 2024, one that remains to pop up in my mind now and then. In fact, it pulls at me to want to re-watch it. Which is rather rare.
Horror, medical, modern. 8/10.
